Roots of Rebellion: The Nexus Deception & The Greenroots Uprising

I’m experimenting with using ChatGPT 4 to create short stories for the magazine, and here is my first attempt.

I prompted it to give me ideas, picked one that looked interesting, and had it create a short story. I used additional prompts to modify the story, asking it to add, remove, and expand on different details.

The resulting story is a “functional” story. It has a beginning, middle, and end. However, it feels more like an emotionless reporting detailing the facts surrounding an event. It doesn’t have much of an emotional pull (in my opinion).

I plan to continue experimenting with short story creation by ChatGPT, and probably other AI tools, but want to show the results I can currently get.

Here it is, with no manual editing.

Please let me know what you think of it.

Roots of Rebellion: The Nexus Deception & The Greenroots Uprising

House built from a genetically engineered seed

NexaHomes’ looming structures dominated every city horizon, embodying their monolithic grip on real estate. As organic silhouettes of Lina Marquez’s Genesis Seed homes began dotting the landscape, NexaHomes felt an encroaching threat to their supremacy.

In the shadowed corners of a NexaHomes boardroom, a nefarious plan was conceived. Their objective was to orchestrate a catastrophic event, so dire that the mere thought of living in a seed-grown home would instill fear.

Their target: a grand public showcase, organized by Lina, where a neighborhood of Genesis Seed homes was being unveiled. Using NexaHomes agents masquerading as contractors, they covertly tampered with the roots of one of the homes, introducing a chemical agent designed to decay the living structure. As families excitedly wandered through their potential new homes, cameras rolling, the compromised house crumbled, causing injuries and panic.

To ensure the sabotage remained undetected, the chemical used was designed to mimic a natural pathogen. This allowed NexaHomes to propagate the narrative that the seed-grown homes were inherently vulnerable to natural diseases and unpredictable in their stability.

Capitalizing on the horror, NexaHomes flooded the media channels they influenced with experts and analysts, all pointing towards the “obvious” flaws in the Genesis Seed concept. The public was inundated with warnings about the dangers of living in a seed-grown home.

Lina, though shattered by the incident, wasn’t one to retreat. But the breakthrough came unexpectedly from Dorian, a young NexaHomes employee. Stumbling upon encrypted communications detailing the sabotage operation, he was faced with a moral dilemma. After wrestling with his conscience, he discreetly handed the evidence to Lina, risking his own position.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, Lina’s battle wasn’t just about showcasing the Genesis Seed’s potential but also about unraveling the dark, deceptive lengths to which NexaHomes had gone to maintain their dominion.
